Why ATF oil?

ATF oil lubricates and cools the rotating parts in an automatic gearbox. It is recommended to refresh and change the ATF oil once in a while, even though some manufacturers say the ATF oil never needs changing. Internal contamination, wear and moisture can cause the ATF oil to lose its working properties. A thicker oil with less lubricating properties may be the result, causing the car to shift less smoothly over time. Refreshing and changing ATF oil can extend the life of automatic transmissions.
