You can top up your windshield washer fluid yourself. Once you’ve worked out which windshield washer fluid you need, you can begin topping up your car or truck. You will need to lift the bonnet to top up your windshield washer fluid. That’s where you’ll find the windshield washer fluid reservoir (tank). The windshield washer fluid reservoir is easily identified by the coloured cap showing a picture of a window. Once you’ve found this, you can top up with the correct windshield washer fluid, filling it to just below the maximum.
You may find that your windshield washer fluid is frozen and it might be useful to know what to do if it is. Let us explain.
Before you begin the first step, it’s important that you thaw your windshield. Once you’ve done that, you need to check the windshield washer fluid jets. If these don’t work because they’re frozen, place something warm on top of them to thaw them. This could include a warm towel. There’s also a chance that your windshield washer fluid itself is frozen. If it is, you have the option of filling the reservoir with warm water or a variant of antifreeze to melt the ice. The antifreeze or warm water will do just that, and you’ll be able to use your windshield washer fluid again.
