Preventing Parabolic Spring Breakage in Scania Trucks

Parabolic springs in trucks are exposed to extreme heat due to the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration process. This causes conventional grease to dry out, the mechanism to seize, and an increased risk of spring breakage. As a result, expensive repairs and unnecessary downtime occur.

Description of situation

Many trucks are equipped with parabolic springs, with their ends lubricated to allow smooth movement. However, during DPF regeneration, the radiant heat from the exhaust causes extreme temperatures, leading to conventional grease drying out and hardening. The oil separates from the grease and leaks away, visible as dirt and oil accumulation around the pivot point. This results in the parabolic spring seizing up and frequently breaking under shock loads.

Solution

Eurol Specialty Syngis Grease leaks little to no oil, withstands higher temperatures, and does not dry out. The pivot point remains flexible due to the Syngis grease, preventing parabolic springs from breaking under shock loads. This increases the reliability of trucks and reduces unnecessary downtime.

Many trucks are equipped with parabolic springs, with their ends lubricated to allow smooth movement. However, the radiant heat generated during the DPF regeneration process causes extreme temperatures around the mechanism. Conventional grease dries out, hardens, and loses its effectiveness. The oil separates from the grease and leaks away due to the extreme heat. This is visible as an accumulation of dirt and oil around the pivot point.

As a result, the parabolic spring seizes up and often breaks under shock loads.
