The longest stage of the 2022 Dakar Rally was also a rapid one. Despite a decent amount of dunes, the terrain was made for close racing and exactly that happened during stage 4. It took Al-Attiyah until the last kilometers of the stage before he got in front of his main rivals. The margin of 25 seconds was enough for a career 44th stage win. Giniel de Villiers also did well and had his best day of the rally to date. A solid P6 brought him a further two places up in the general classification. Shameer Variawa had another solid day within the top 25. Henk Lategan was in front for a long time, but got technical problems and lost a lot of time.
Bernhard ten Brinke has had his share of bad luck over the past few days, but he made up for it on Wednesday. During the 4th stage of the Dakar he finished in a good 8th place, he only lost 6 minutes to the days winner.
In the truck category Gert Huzink hit back after a few average days. The Riwald Dakar Team leader had his best day of the rally and finished in 5th place. His team mate Pascal de Baar hit technical troubles and is still in the desert.
Martin van den Brink had a little setback at the start of the stage when he had a flat tyre, but had a solid second half an scored another top 10 finish. His son Mitchel van den Brink did have his struggles as well, but scored a decent top 20 as the sunset started in Saudi Arabia
