Eurol in Dakar 2022: Another day closer to the finish

As the end of the Dakar Rally is starting to become visible, the going gets tough for some of the Eurol supported crews in Saudi Arabia. While bad luck struck for the Riwald Dakar Team, the Toyota GAZOO Racing team was ever present in the top of the cars category.

While Nasser Al-Attiyah manages his lead to win a third Dakar Rally, Henk Lategan went all out to win another stage. The South African pushed a lot but just missed out on another podium finish. He ended up in 4th while Al-Attiyah only lost one minute to his main rival and manages a 33 minute lead with only two stages to go. Giniel de Villiers finished stage 10 in 15th place while Shameer Variawa had an uphill battle on a tough special stage.

Bernhard ten Brinke also had a solid day, although he was halted a bit with a lack of power on the altitude parts of the stage. The Dutchman brought a successful end to the stage as he got home in 17th place.

Martin van den Brink was a proud father after stage 10. While the leader of Mammoet Rallysport ended up in ninth place, shortly followed by his son Mitchel on 10th place. “I’m so happy for Mitchel”, Van den Brink senior said. “A top 10 in the Dakar is a great result, I’m very proud. We didn’t have a bad day ourselves and won some places in the general standings.”

Riwald Dakar Team

For Gert Huzink, Rob Buursen and Martin Roesink the Dakar ended prematurely on Wednesday. The Riwald-crew had a big hit on one of the dunes early in the stage which caused big damage to the truck. Luckily, the crew of the truck came out in one piece but they won’t reach the finish podium in Jeddah. Teammate Pascal de Baar is still going strong with only two days to go in the Dakar. De Baar finished in P12 on the 10th stage and found some good pace in the second half of the stage
