Nasser Al-Attiyah also did very well today in the huge dunes. He took another strong place, just 10 seconds splitting him from the winner. More importantly, he got back almost eight minutes on the leader in the intermediate standings after today. Who now has 10 minutes ahead for Nasser to make up tomorrow.
Bernhard ten Brinke and Tom Colsoul also had a good flow, today there was a great fourth stage result for the Dutch / Belgian combination. As a result, the "307" moved up a place in the general classification, just like yesterday, resulting now in a sixth place overall. Giniel de Villiers is in that Top 10 as well, sporting a 10-minute lead over team-mate Ten Brinke he’s in fifth place.
Tom & Tim Coronel are increasingly getting used to daylight. Whereas in previous editions the twins were struggling in the desert for many hours at night, just to make it to the bivouac, today it was again a relatively simple day in The Beast.
Kees Koolen and Jurgen van den Goorbergh also finished remarkably quick today, finishing ninth in the SSV daily classification at just 23 minutes off the winner. That also means that they have solved the problems with the drive shaft themselves, something they had taken the necessary time yesterday.
In the trucks, it was Gert Huzink being the only one to be able to compete with the Russian armada. Part of the day the hybrid Renault drove right in between the four Kamaz’es, but later he had to forfeit some time. His team-mate Pascal de Baar also held up beautifully among the fast men, the second Riwald truck being tenth in the stage today as a participant in the Dakar Experience. Mammoet's truck had a harder time in nineteenth place today. Behind that, Ed Wigman's fast assistance is still a solid force that all other participants can always rely on, while they are still in the rally.
Unfortunately today the Dutch participant Edwin Straver crashed, after which he was transferred to hospital with serious injury. Eurol wishes Edwin and his family lots of strength.
