Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Additives
Does Eurol oil additives contain solvents?

No, Eurol oil additives do not contain solvents. The advantage is that lubrication is maintained and seals are not affected.

How long does it take for additives to work? When do I see or notice results?

Additives basically work immediately. The effect starts as soon as the additive reaches the right components. It may take several miles before you notice any effect. Whether you also experience the effect of the additive depends on the type of additive, the symptom and the degree of pollution. For the latter, you will experience effect at a power recovery of about 5 per cent.

How do I open the additive?

If present, break the break ring off the pouring spout, loosen the pouring spout and open the cap. If present, twist the pouring spout onto the cap and add the additive to the prescribed part.

How often should I use Eurol additives?

For the problem-solving additives (cleaners and no smoke), we recommend a repeat interval of 2,500 km or two consecutive refueling intervals if the problem is severe. For performance-enhancing additives (powers, improvers), we recommend adding an additive after every fill-up for optimum performance gains. Oil additives can be applied at every oil change.

How do I know which additive to use for which problem/symptom?

Our online additives advisor translates problems/symptoms into a product solution. Use the additives advisor. For specific questions, please contact our Sales Department.

I have a new car. Do I need an additive?

Yes, the need for additives is generally independent of the age of the vehicle. The need for additives comes from use and fuel quality rather than the age of the vehicle. For example, deposits on injectors can form on both old and new vehicles.

Where can I buy Eurol additives?

For the nearest point of sale in your area, check our dealer locator.

Eurol has one specific application per additive, while there are also additives on the market that have multiple applications, the so-called 'all-rounders'. What is the difference?

For optimal results, our range is composed with a specific formulation per application. Eurol additives contain a high dose of active substances, making them powerful and targeted at the right parts. As a result, Eurol additives have a better effect compared to products with multiple effects, so-called 'all-rounders'.

Why do some car manufacturers advise against using additives?

Car manufacturers have not tested every additive so manufacturers choose to advise against the use of all additives.

Why should I use additives?

The usefulness and necessity of using additives is increasing. There are several reasons for this. The percentage of bio components in fuels is increasing, journeys are getting shorter, engine technology is becoming more sophisticated and oil change intervals are getting longer. With this, the likelihood of engine contamination also increases, both in old and modern engines. This contamination causes noticeably lower engine performance, poor starting, higher consumption, smoke development and higher exhaust emissions.

What is the combustion chamber?

The combustion chamber is the space between the top of the piston and the cylinder head. This is the space where the air/fuel mixture is injected and ignited.

What is the fuel system?

The fuel system is the entire system, from the fuel tank to the exhaust including fuel pipes.

What are fuel injectors?

The fuel injector is the part in the engine that doses and delivers the fuel to the combustion chamber. It can be placed in the intake or directly in the combustion chamber. The injector is responsible for atomizing the fuel, allowing it to ignite properly.

What are the benefits of Eurol additives?

Eurol additives work adequately to remedy existing contamination, deposits, adhesion and leaks. However, its action is also preventive thanks to its cleaning and protective properties. Eurol additives ensure longer engine life, reduced wear, restored engine power, lower repair costs, lower fuel and oil consumption and lower emissions.

Are Eurol additives produced 'in house'?

Yes, Eurol additives are produced at our production site in Nijverdal. The development of the additives line was also done by our own Research & Development department.

Are Eurol additives suitable for LPG vehicles?

Eurol oil and radiator additives are suitable for use in LPG vehicles. Eurol fuel additives, however, are not suitable for LPG systems. A separate injection system is required for adding additives to vehicles running on LPG. However, if the LPG vehicle also runs on petrol, petrol fuel additives can be added to the petrol tank.

Are Eurol additives reusable?

No, Eurol additives are tuned so that a 'one shot application' applies to most products. You add the full 250 ML or 500 ML to the fuel tank before refueling. However, this does not apply to all our additives. We also offer various oil additives that are added to the engine and/or transmission.

Are Eurol additives also suitable for vehicles other than cars and light commercial vehicles?

Yes, as long as you use the correct dosage, Eurol additives are also suitable for other vehicles such as trucks, scooters, motorbikes and agricultural vehicles.

Are Eurol additives safe to use in four-stroke engines and two-stroke engines?

Eurol additives have been developed for four-stroke engines. Little is known about their use in two-stroke engines. Because of this, it is not recommended to use additives in two-stroke engines.

Fuel additives
How do I increase the octane number of my fuel?

We recommend using Eurol Petrol Octane Improver for this purpose. Eurol Petrol Power increases the octane number to a lesser extent. This product aims to be added preventively, keeping the engine in optimal condition and maintaining the car's original power.

My car suffers from pre-ignition also known as dieseling. Is this harmful?

Yes, pre- ignition is harmful. It is caused by carbon deposit hotspots in combination with leaking injectors or carburetors. A small amount of fuel enters the hot combustion chamber, where carbon deposits are still glowing. The piston is on its way up where the explosion tries to push it back down. It is necessary to clean the engine by using Eurol Petrol System Cleaner.

My car suffers from 'pinging'. What additive do I use to remedy this?

Eurol Petrol Power prevents and combats knocking at normal engine speeds up to 3,500 rpm. It improves throttle response and efficiency. If the car pings at higher revs (5,000 - 6,000 rpm), we recommend Eurol Petrol Octane Improver, because the fuel has too low an octane rating for the power demanded.

What additive do I use to keep my car running smoothly?

We recommend using Eurol System Cleaner. Eurol System Cleaner is available in a petrol and diesel variant. The product provides better combustion control and cleans and maintains the combustion chamber and cleans the entire fuel system.

What dosage do I keep for Eurol fuel additives?

For the correct dosage, see the packaging or the product data sheets via the product overview on our website.

Are Eurol additives also suitable for turbo engines?

Yes, Eurol additives are suitable for both unblown and blown (turbo and/or compressor) engines.

Are Eurol diesel fuel additives harmful to my diesel particulate filter (DPF)?

No, Eurol fuel additives are suitable for use with all types of exhaust after-treatment systems.

Are Eurol diesel fuel additives safe to use for all diesel engines?

Yes, Eurol diesel fuel additives are suitable for Euro I to Euro VI diesel engines, for indirect injection as well as Pumpe-Düse and common rail injection systems.

Engine oil & Transmission oil additives
After a flush, some of the additive Eurol Transmission Flush remains in the transmission. Is this residue harmful to the transmission and the new oil?

No, when cleaning the transmission -with whatever product- a small part of the additive always remains behind. This is not harmful to the transmission and the fresh oil.

Oil additives
How long should I leave Eurol Engine Flush in my engine before I change the oil?

After adding Eurol Engine Flush let the car idle for at least 5, maximum 15 minutes, then drain the oil containing the Engine Flush additive and fill the crankcase with new Eurol oil.

Can I use Eurol Engine flush in my synthetic motor oil?

Yes, Eurol Engine Flush can be used in mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic motor oil.
